Dramatic Play of Light and Shadow

Summer 2012 013

Poem number nineteen NaPoWriMo

An artist needs a palette

he needs a brush and colors

to paint what his eyes see

upon a canvas of white

but when one paints

light and shadow with a camera

it takes but a steady hand

and the beauty of nature at play

clouds like sailing ships

move across the sky

in shapes and forms

that the imagination

can take farther

become animals

shapes and forms

that go bounding

over the wide sky

the sun plays in harmony

making symphonies of light and shadow

delighting the eye

amazing displays of light

reflected all around

the beauty astounds

as evening draws near

darker shadows begin to come calling

even outlining the photographer

showing that day is drawing to a close

in the golden glow of the late afternoon

bringing along a little sadness

at the closing of another day

amazingly even nearing the end of twilight

the sun still comes shining through

just before it disappears

beneath the horizon

as the curtain closes upon another day

the moon comes out to take bow

its his show now

as the stars gather round

for the evening chorus

the beauty goes on

the show that never closes
