The Forest Beckons

Just Recently Taken 031

Poem number eighteen NaPoWriMo

In the forest dark shadows fall

while slanting rays of sunlight

dance upon the forest floor

tall pines and firs stretch up high into the sky

where just a patch of blue can be seen

in the forest a dreamlike feeling takes over

it feels like you’re one with nature and creation

listen carefully to the wind whisper through the trees

it’s singing a soothing lullaby

like in a fairy tale where fairies flitter about

and you see tiny lights all around

sit down upon a stump

you feel like you’re on a remote island

alone in a place where perhaps tiny dwarfs live

under mushroom caps

nymphs play in forest streams

the water gurgling merrily

while bird’s sing high up in the trees

in the forest there is peace and tranquility

while you walk on a carpet of pine needles

and if you’re lucky you may be able to see

the soulful eyes of a darting deer

or the swift movement of a rabbit as it scurries away

in the forest when night calls

a blanket of darkness falls

silence all around

except perhaps for the hoot of an owl

you may see shadows which can frighten

but mostly it is mysteriously romantic

which may magically get illuminated

by a full moon from above

  1. The forest always calls me. Someday I hope to feed a tree…
