When the Night Rides In

Sid Laptop 019

Poem number 16 NaPoWriMo

When the night rides in

we become incognito

as a black veil

descends over us

on black cat paws

the darkness enters

the day becomes

a fading memory

as the night rides in

we remove our day masks

choosing our nighttime faces

we put on evening attire

and paint our faces

like clowns at the circus

no one would recognize us

in the light of  day

never get caught

like a night bird

when the sun comes over the horizon

as night rides in

out come the creatures of the night

we look at things differently

when the cloak of blackness

surrounds us

we look braver

surer

lovelier

able to trip the light fantastic

as the night rides in

spirits fill the skies

we often wonder

what is beyond

the darkness outside our windows

nighttime can bring romance

under the stars above

lit up by the moon

passions emerging

as we sit together

in a rocking boat

upon a silver molten river

we can go out dancing

alone in a crowd

while the music

pulsates all around

heart beating to the rhythm

our night faces painted on

nighttime can bring melancholy

under cloud filled skies

as moonbeams play with night shadows

when the sounds of the day still

and we are alone

when the night rides in

we wonder who we might meet

under the veil of darkness

and mystery abounds

in the dark

in the night

we never know what might confront us

there might be laughter

might be tears

screams can echo far and wide

loving whispers till daylight

when the night rides in
