Sweet Baby Blue

Poem number 14 NaPoWriMo

Oh, baby blue the angels sang

on the day you were born

into a world full of strife

wanting only pure love

if you were born

to parents who loved and adored you

then the love you needed

was right there at your door

your small world

can be a happy one

with laughter filling your days

nights full of fairy tale dreams

and sweet lullabies

baby blue it’s so true

perhaps you came into this world

to be hurt and abused

your sweet tears flowing like a river

if they tear your world apart

don’t fret because there are those

who’ll lend a helping hand

you will find the peace and happiness you seek

perhaps you’re a child of war

your lullabies interrupted by bombs dropping from the sky

your world is all fire and hate

you don’t know what is your fate

baby blue don’t let them hang out your cradle

you never know when gun fire may erupt

your world is in chaos

your mama can’t save you

born into a starving world

where your belly is empty

and your heart full of pain

there is no one to blame

baby blue of poverty

perhaps your mama begging in the streets

you never know where to lay your sweet head

and what tomorrow will bring

baby blue who are you

are you a happy, abused or sad child

what can the world do to help you

perhaps angels can watch over you

and make you glad

of one thing you can be certain

the Lord is there for you

and someday you’ll see

there will be someone to love you

making your world in bright, colorful hues

giving you only good news
