Changing the World

What is this world as we know it

crashing upon us

with crazies blaring guns

spoiling all the fun

where are the simple days

of grander times

strollers and lovers

in the parks

polite people

ladies and gentlemen

now our society

is quite grim

there were city streets

full of smiling people

now they all frown

they get you down

your neighbor might say hello

or he or she might shoot you down

oh, the days of ladies

in long dresses

gentlemen dressed to the teeth

in top hats and tails

arm in arm they’d walk

tipping their hats

to other ladies that passed by

Has romance left this world?

I think it is still to be had

Will it save the world?

Perhaps at a later time

the world needs to spin slower

to remind people

where their hearts are at

to fill each and everyone

with a love that shines

for their human kind

  1. to have a world

where love reigns

and a helping hand

is there when you reach out

let’s hope that one day soon

we can turn the world around

to become a place

where we all live in grace

and all the people

are like brothers and sisters

in many different colors

religions and cultures

but living in harmony

and loving one another

  1. The sooner we realise the world is a community the better. No us and them, but only us.

  2. Denise Covey says:

Hello Rasma. Has romance left this world? I don’t think so. We just have to look harder and hope the crazies with guns don’t get us. Very current poem. Thank you.
