Now That Autumn is Here

Suddenly like in a fairytale

the ending has come too soon

we didn’t go on

to live happily ever after

like two butterflies

we danced the summer through

with warm kisses

and days beneath the sun

every time we’d stroll

along the seashore

I looked behind

to see the waves

wash out footprints

from the sand

and I knew that we were not

meant to be two

for the autumn would come

to take you away

now that the leaves

are falling from the trees

the beauty of the colors

are  lost to me

as I look through misty eyes

filled with farewell tears

bringing on the fears

that I must go on without you

down the road as I go

each leaf that touches my hair

makes me think of your tender touch

leaves that playfully touch my lips

as they’re blown by the wind

reminds me of the kisses we shared

and the harvest moon above

makes me long for you so

how cruel the autumn can be

that it has taken you from me
