Leaving Signatures in the Sand

Our bodies leave imprints in the sand

still warm from the sun

as a remembrance to the sea

that this is where we lay that day

until the waves wash

these signatures away

somewhere dancing upon the waves

magical mermaids from underwater kingdoms

will receive our signatures

like greetings

and will place them in seashells

so others can hear our voices

it’s truly funny to imagine

that our signatures can travel

perhaps to foreign shores

upon the waves that took them

and weave them with others

that they find along the way

like a special remembrance

that we were once a part of life’s scheme

we were here to love, to live and to dream

leaving behind sparkling memories

as we pass our signatures along

only the mermaids

that sit upon rocks in the sun

know the secrets that the sea holds

know the sounds of many different voices

that leave their signatures

in the sand
